Melihat berbagai hujatan yang ia terima, Madonna pun memberikan klarifikasi melalui Instagram pribadinya. Ia mengunggah foto bersama dengan Camilla Cabelo, pemenang kategori Video of The Year. Dia mengatakan, bahwa dirinya memang diminta untuk menceritakan perjalanan karirnya, yang berhubungan dengan Aretha.
Madonna juga mengungkapkan bahwa jangka waktu 2 menit yang diberikan, tidaklah cukup untuk merangkup prestasi Aretha.
