Beberapa netizen menduga beberapa lirik lagu tersebut sengaja ditulis untuk menyindir penyanyi Charli XCX.
Sebenarnya, dulu mereka berteman. Charlie bahkan pernah menjadi salah seorang artis pembuka dalam tur konser Taylor pada 2018 lalu.
Perseteruan muncul ketika Charli XCX merilis lagu ‘Sympathy Is a Knife’ (2024). Lirik lagu tersebut menggambarkan perasaan tidak nyaman saat ia melihat kekasihnya bersama wanita lain di belakang panggung.

Diduga, itu merujuk pada suaminya, George Daniel, dan Taylor Swift. Keduanya pernah terlihat akrab bercengkrama di belakang panggung konser Charli.
Meski Charli telah menyatakan ‘Sympathy is a Knife’ bukanlah diss track (lagu untuk menyindir seseorang), spekulasi bahwa hubungannya dengan Taylor memburuk telah beredar.
Seolah berusaha membalas lagu tersebut, Taylor Swift pun menulis lagu ‘Actually Romantic’.
Menurut pernyataannya dalam podcast Greg James, lagu tersebut bercerita tentang seseorang yang memusuhi orang lain secara sepihak.
